About the Schools

James K. Polk Elementary School - Principal PreeAnn Johnson

James K. Polk Elementary School is located within the Seminary Valley community. The school was built in 1965 and its academic program consists of the core subject areas of reading, language arts, mathematics, social studies and science. Polk is a technologically advanced school which has the latest computers, telephones, multimedia, Internet and CD-Rom research. The school also includes a computer lab and a daily television broadcast by its students. Polk offers special academic programs which consist of an inclusion program, reading teacher support, gifted and talented and before & after programs. Inova Alexandria Hospital and Southland Corporation are business and community partners with Polk. Currently the school is expanding the property with an addition and modernization to Polk's gymnasium and classrooms, for the need of more instructional space. When completed, the school will have 4 new primary classrooms, a stage built inside the gymnasium, as well as a vestibule. It is scheduled to be completed before the beginning of the 2011-2012 school year.

Francis C. Hammond Middle School - Principals Keisha Boggan (FCH1), Arthur Williams (FCH2) and Sara Schafer (FCH3)

Francis C. Hammond Middle School is located right on the outskirts of Seminary Valley on Seminary Road. The school was built in 1956 and was originally built as a high school. In 1979, Hammond became both a middle and high school but transitioned solely into a middle school in 1993. More recently in 2009, the school is now comprised of 3 middle schools which are referred to as: FCH1, FCH2 and FCH3. Hammond has been recognized in the past with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Excellence in Education Award as well as the most-improved school by the Virginia Department of Education. The academic programs that are offered at Hammond include mathematics, English, social studies, science and several other courses. Hammond is also advanced in technology. The City of Alexandria launched a multi-year, multi-million dollar initiative to bring the latest technology in the classroom which include computers, telephones, multimedia, Internet and CD-Rom. There are also computer labs and several classrooms throughout the school that are equipped with computers. Hammond offers special academic programs for example Honors, as well as before & after school programs.

T.C. Williams High School - Principal Suzanne Maxey

T.C. Williams High School is recognized as one of the most comprehensive and respected high schools in the country and its facilities and top students compare favorably with best private schools. T.C. Williams-Minnie Howard Campus are for 9th grade students and T.C. Williams are for 10th-12th grade students. Located about 5 or 10 minutes away from Seminary Valley, T.C. Williams offers a curriculum of 188 courses and is one of the few Virginia schools that teaches Organic Chemistry. Not only that, but 5 years of French, German, Latin and Spanish are offered. The City of Alexandria also launched the same initiative to bring the latest technology to T.C. Williams which include computers, telephones, multimedia, Internet and CD-Rom capabilities. In addition to technological advances, this school offers a media center, fiber optic network, completely automated library and connections to the Internet. Because of that, T.C. Williams is taking its place as one of the best technologically equipped schools in the country. T.C. Williams offers co-curriculum programs which include 17 interscholastic sports and 55 clubs & organizations such as the National Honor Society. Lockheed Martin represents T.C. Williams as a business and community partner.
